The Discipleship and Training School
(DTS) is your chance to experience God like never before. It is an intense, rewarding and fun 5-month learning experience, including a 3-month lecture phase at a YWAM base in Brazil and a 2-month field assignment.
During the DTS you will not only study the Word of God, but will find out how to make it real in your own life, learning to hear the voice of God and letting Him change your heart. The DTS is your chance to intensely seek the face of the Lord and to know the joy of having intimacy with the Creator. Each DTS offers opportunities of local, national and international outreaches.
The DTS is a training program that offers people the opportunity to have their character and personality strengthened to know God’s purpose for their lives. The main emphasis of the program is to know God in a deeper way and to provide the students with favorable circumstances to mature their relationship with the Lord and with people around them.
Communicators DTS is a conventional DTS when it comes to the curriculum. Besides the DTS curriculum, we will have workshops, technical lectures and activities related to communication with focus in journalism, design, social media, photography and video. The school takes place in the environment of YWAM’s Central Mídia, the communication ministry at YWAM Almirante Tamandaré.

The DTS curriculum is designed for the development of an intimate relationship with God, Christian character and the student’s vocational profile. The student will be personally accompanied by a missionary who will help him in spiritual growth, discovering talents and gifts for the Christian service in missions as well as in Christian life.
In the mornings you will have your quiet time with God and classes until lunch time. In the afternoons, depending on the day of the week, you will participate in work duties, communication work or creative evangelism training. There will also be small groups, one on one discipleship, intercession, etc, Most of the evenings will be free for personal study, reading and preparation of academic work.
On Saturdays you will have a weekly day-off. The day-off can also be on Monday or any other day of the week according to the week’s schedule.
After successfully completing the 3-month lecture phase, the students will be sent as a team to an outreach in a mission’s field in Brazil or abroad for the 2-month field assignment. The emphasis of the outreach is to apply everything that was learned during the lecture phase, with active participation in creative evangelism, training, discipleship, mercy, service and communication.
Outreach possibilities: Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Nova Contagem/MG and Colombia.
Communication & Media Focus
We offer three weekend long training workshops in communication and media during lecture phase:
- Communication & Journalism Workshop
- Design & Social Media Workshop
- Photography & Video Workshop
These workshops have specific training and activities in the communication area within the DTS communication and media focus: lectures with experienced Christian professionals, key activities in the area of media, journalism, photography, video, design, evangelism through communication tools and implementation and/or support to communication ministries at churches or YWAM bases. The objective of the workshops is to generate knowledge, to inspire and to bring reflection about communication in the Kingdom, professional practices and tools in the communication area.
Reading is a fundamental aspect of the learning process. The Communicators DTS academic leadership has adopted reading and reports as one of the basis of the Discepleship and Training School.
The following book must be read prior to your arrival at the school:
Is That Really You, God?
Loren Cunningham – YWAM Publishing
Other reading suggestion:

Personal Study Time

The work duties are part of the University of the Nations curriculum and offer the student an opportunity to serve the community when not in class while teaching key principles of the Kingdom of God, such as diligence, service, teamwork, interdependency, etc.
We understand that serving one another is one of the most basic principles of the Christian faith and because we live together in a community, together we zeal for the place we live, work and study.
